How can I stop biting my fingernails? I NEED answers : )?
I seriously don’t think i have EVER had nails in my entire life. Wearing nail polish doesn’t help. Sometimes I bite them without knowing I am and sometimes I do it just because I like to. I want nails but I really don’t think I can stop. When my mom sees me doing it she’ll tell me to stop, but I always continue to do it. ANY IDEAS???
Oh and is it weird to know your biting your nails and actually enjoy it???

its a nasty habit, which ive never had. what i do to keep myself from tearing them off is to simply nibble, not bite, not tear.

I have an idea!
Dig your fingernails into something really nasty.
Or just spray nasty perfume on it.
So when you bite your nails, you’ll think its nasty and gross.
and you’ll stop.

There’s this stuff you buy, it’s like nail polish, only it’s bitter when you go to bite your nails. It deff. helps the subconsious nail-biter like myself. I think it would work for you since when you go to bite, you get this really bad taste in your mouth, deff. something you wouldn’t want to continue biting.
hope this helps!

omigosh i have been the same way…it’s like i dont realize im doing it and then ill look down and all my nails are gone!
its a hard habit to break but i have some solutions that really helped me to stop.
chewing gum….give you something to put in your mouth instead of your fingers
i have what i call a worry stone, its a small stone i carry around and when im nervous and try to bite i just fiddle with the stone
last one my mother tried on me :p it was gross…if you dont have any cuts or cuticles ripped on your nails try sticking your fingertips in lemon or jalapeno juice then when you try to bite…you get an unpleasent taste in your mouth…..
good luck with breaking the habit!
hope i was of some help!

I used to bite my nails non stop all my life. And then my sophmore year of high school, I stopped biting them. Actually that’s a lie.. I bite them sometimes but not extreme like used to. And when I bite them I like limit myself so that I still have pretty nails. Anyways, I started using the Sally Hansen nail growth nailpolish. It’s in a gold bottle and you can find them in any drug stores like CVS or like walgreens. I think you have to be like really dedicated to stop biting nails. I mean, you’re trying to stop a life time habit and that’s NOT EASY AT ALL! Just look at your nails and it’ll be hedious right? So just think of all the pretty nail polishes you can put on afterwards and you can go get your nails done with your friends!! I hope this helps but yeah you gotta have the will to do it.

You can buy this stuff at Walgreens and it
tastes horrible. It’s clear so paint it on your nails and you’ll never bite again.

well, i used to and the nail polish thing worked 4 me. if u can get them to an average length, reward your self with a manicure. stay busy. u probably find that your often biting ur fingernails when your watching a movie or something sitting down or when ur bored or whatever. so keep busy! good luck!

I’m not a biter myself, but I pick at the skin around my fingernails (been doing it for 15 years now!) I find that if I keep busy I’m less likely to do it. I also tend to pick more when I’m stressed, and I also do it and don’t even realize it. It does help to keep your fingernails pretty (either a manicure, or painting them yourself.) I found it helped me stop for awhile when I promised myself a reward. I also told everyone around me to watch me, and if I was picking at my fingernails to make me STOP!

My friend had this problem, and her nail beds were probably only a few millimeters long. She solved it (well, her parents did) by wrapping cloth tape around the tips of her fingers so her nails were covered up and she couldn’t bite them. You can also try nail polish or the nasty-tasting stuff everyone else has mentioned.
Sounds like you may have a compulsion to bite your nails. If you find that you can’t stop no matter what, try talking to someone about it.
