Yes they cost money, but after a year of acrylics, I was out of the habit. And trust me, I tried EVERYTHING out there before that. The bitter polish, nail polish, chili, gloves... The only thing that worked was acrylic nails. I have thin nails too. I couldn't stand anything rough or snaggy on my nails and would bite till there was nothing left to get at. With acrylics there wasn't anything rough to bite, and it didn't somehow, well satisfy is not the right word exactly but that is the closest I can come up with. Since I let the acrylics grow out, I was very careful to always keep a file with me. As soon as I feel a rough spot, I file it smooth again. Now I keep them trimmed and filed.
