Biting Your Nails

Question by flying_fling: Why is nail biting so common and prevalent among Italian men?
Nail biting is a compulsive habit usually found in children and say young adults. However, it seems that wherever I go in Italy, I find fully grown men, meaning adults, biting on their fingernails. Be it on the bus, on the train or just walking around, it’s easy to spot two or more Italian men biting on their fingernails. Now, I’m not so sure whether to shake hands with any man here or not.

Be it on the bus, on the train or just walking around, it’s easy to spot two or more Italian men biting on their fingernails. Now, I’m not so sure whether to shake hands with any man here or not.

Of course not everyone may notice this. it’s all a matter of keen observation. I’m not the first to notice this. It certainly has real-life basis. I didn’t just wake up today and decided I should ask the question.

I have been to Italy for many times, but I have not even seen once. In fact, I havent seen any grown men biting finger nails all in my life.
