How does an adult permanently break their serious habit of biting their nails?
I’m talking about a serious, decades-long destructive habit. What are some proven methods?

I found a palm sized rock and held it in my palm as a worry rock and a reminder not to bite and to rub the edges of my finger tips like a fingernail file and it worked after biting my nails over 40 years and made the rock pretty smooth too now I gotta work on stopping smoking.

There’s this nasty tasting nail polish you can get. It has no color, so it’s good for males too.

Always try having gum with you and chew that. Most of the time it’s stress induced. You can buy that clear nail polish and if you bite them you get this nasty taste in your mouth. Which may make you stop biting.

Nail biting, for those of you on who don’t actually do it but feel the need to guess at why, is done because of nerves. It’s self-soothing. NO, maturity won’t help.
It’s a way to feel better during times of anxiety or stress. I pick mine off when I am stressed out to the limit. I can ignore my nails for a long time, but when I get to feel so stressed that I feel destructive, off my nails go…
It’s a hard habit to break. It’s also OCD.
